Project Overview

Orgill, an independently held international hardware distributor serving over 6,500 independent hardware stores, required a comprehensive overhaul of its public website to enhance mobile compatibility, improve accessibility, and align with recently adopted brand standards. Given the complexity of multiple interacting databases, the project was approached in several stages. The process began with a thorough review of existing content using analytics to identify the most popular pages, providing valuable feedback to Orgill’s team. Collaboration with the IT department helped identify potential challenges related to database integrations. A comprehensive design system was then developed using Figma, allowing for clear visualization and presentation of ideas.

Following the adoption of the design system, templates and styles were programmed in BuilderIO, ensuring a seamless transition from an outdated CMS to a more flexible and efficient platform. The project manager facilitated the upgrade of content, starting with public-facing pages and the most frequently used internal pages. With over 200 unique pages and 80,000 product detail pages, enhancements included copy updates for accuracy, refreshed downloadable resources, improved request-for-information forms, and mobile optimization. The updated system now empowers Orgill’s marketing team to make simple edits and image upgrades without requiring developer assistance. Since the site primarily serves customers, many of its pages remain inaccessible to the public.
